How old can medical reports be for a medical visa?

The official document sets no age limit on the reports. We found no official basis for the widely repeated “no more than six months” claim.

In detail

Many websites state that medical reports must be no more than six months old. We opened the Medical Visa section of the High Commission's official document and checked: it sets no condition on the age of the reports.

What the document asks for is the necessary medical documents and reports from a local doctor in support of the ailment, and a valid appointment letter from the Indian hospital. A time limit appears elsewhere in the document — on the financial endorsement (three months) — but not on the reports.

Does that mean old reports are fine? We are not saying that either. Where a document is silent, silence should not be read as permission. Common sense suggests recent reports make sense for a treatment application, since the hospital's appointment letter reflects your current condition anyway. The distinction is simply this: that is judgement, not a written rule.
