How long can I stay in India on a transit visa to Nepal or Bhutan?
Three days in India each way. A double-entry transit visa is issued for these routes.
In detail
The document states this provision separately: “Double entry transit visas are issued for landlocked countries like Nepal and Bhutan, which share land borders with India, with duration of stay of 3 days in India (both ways)”.
So for travel to landlocked neighbours such as Nepal or Bhutan:
- The visa is double entry — you may enter India twice, once outbound and once on the return
- Each stay in India is limited to 3 days
The three days apply separately in each direction. Bear this in mind when planning: if you want to see something of India along the way, a transit visa does not allow it — that requires a tourist visa.
The other conditions are the same as any transit visa: the destination country's visa, a confirmed ticket and a hotel booking there.
