What is a Webfile, and where do I get one?

The PDF generated when you successfully submit the online visa application is the Webfile. You need it to book an appointment.

In detail

According to the appointment portal FAQ, a Webfile is the PDF copy of the online visa application form generated after you submit it successfully. You upload it when booking an appointment, so you cannot start a booking without one.

The application form is filled in on the separate official Indian Visa Online Portal, not on the appointment portal. They are two different sites.

The account holder’s Webfile is called the Primary Webfile. If they add up to three more people, those are Secondary Webfiles.

Two things worth remembering:

  • the original, unaltered PDF must be used for booking; altering a Webfile can lead to rejection
  • if the application contains wrong information it cannot be corrected — you fill a fresh application and generate a new Webfile

So before you submit the application, check your name, passport number and date of birth against the passport. And a Webfile has a limit — it is not accepted once it is older than 30 days; that is covered in its own question.
