What must the Indian hospital's appointment letter contain?

The names and passport details of both patient and attendant, the appointment date, and the doctor.

In detail

The document spells this out: “Valid appointment letter from Indian hospital mentioning/ highlighting name & passport details of applicant & attendant, date of appointment, doctor etc.”

Four things must appear in the letter:

  1. The patient's name and passport details
  2. The attendant's name and passport details
  3. The appointment date
  4. The name of the doctor you have the appointment with

The second is where things most often go wrong. Hospitals normally issue the letter in the patient's name and do not mention an attendant unless asked. The shortfall only becomes apparent once the letter arrives.

When you request it, state clearly in your email that the attendant's name and passport number must also appear for visa purposes, and attach copies of both passports. The document also uses the word “highlighting” — it is worth having these details stand out clearly in the letter.
